Share transfer checklist

There are a several steps involved in transferring shares. Our checklist takes you through what the shareholder and company need to do.

Selling or giving away shares

A share transfer is the process by which a shareholder (the “transferor”) sells their shares or gives them away. So that the transfer is valid, a particular process needs to be followed. Our checklist takes you through it.

As always, check the company’s articles as they may set out special requirements or they may modify the standard process.

Using the checklist

The checklist can be used by shareholders who need to transfer their shares to help them follow the right process and fill out the paperwork. It can also be used by the company secretary and directors to make sure that the transfer process has been carried out properly before registering it, as well as to check that the company has taken all of the steps required of it.
