Quick guide to RIDDOR 2013

If there’s an accident or a case of work-related illness in your business, you’ll need to promptly check if it’s reportable to the HSE. Use our quick reference guide to do this.

Report it

The types of incident which are reportable to the HSE are listed in the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR). Under RIDDOR, it is a legal requirement to report certain serious workplace accidents, occupational diseases and specified dangerous occurrences (near misses) that take place at work or in connection with work.

What’s included?

Our Quick Guide to RIDDOR 2013 runs through the different categories of report enabling you to check whether an incident, accident or disease is likely to be reportable.

Each section includes details of the types of event which must be reported and by when. We’ve also included links to HSE guidance on special considerations when making reports within the education and health/ social care sectors.

Note. You may want to file this guide with your accident book or forms so that it’s available at the right time.

Note. Although the reporting requirements are much simpler, it’s not possible in this short guide to reflect each one. You should still use the HSE’s guidance before making your report.
