Indoor temperatures can be a major source of disgruntlement, but how do you get to the root of the problem? Use our checklist to identify the key concerns in your workplace.

Too hot or too cold?

Our Thermal Comfort Checklist is designed to help you in conducting a review of workplace temperature. It’s based on a form designed by the HSE, and covers both hot and cold extremes.

This checklist goes beyond the minimum legal requirement which is for the indoor temperature to be “reasonable”, not excessively affected by sunlight and adequately thermally insulated. Achieving good comfort levels has definite benefits in terms of staff morale and productivity so it’s worth getting right.

The form can be used to assess current arrangements and opinions on thermal comfort at your workplace. It has a list of factors to consider and columns for you to tick, “Yes”, “No”, or “N/A” (not applicable). If you tick “Yes” twice or more, you’ll need to take a closer look at what can be done to manage the situation.
