Introduction to this document
Refusal of a parental leave request
If a parental leave request has not been made correctly in accordance with the statutory provisions, it can be refused.
Request refused
If you receive a parental leave request and it’s not been made correctly, you can turn it down. Also, if an employee is ineligible to take parental leave but has nevertheless applied for it, you’ll need to turn them down and give them the reasons why. This is most likely to happen where the employee has not worked for you for long enough, i.e. one year. In these cases use our Refusal of Parental Leave Request. However, remember that you can’t decline a request where it’s made in accordance with the statutory provision.
