Introduction to this document

Work equipment - safe system of work

It’s vital that staff are trained in the safe systems of work they should follow when using machinery. You can achieve this using our form.

Simple guide

If staff are using machinery, such as lathes, drills etc. there are risks associated. The operator could get caught up in the moving parts, have materials ejected in their direction and more. So, to ensure that no such scenario arises, use our Work Equipment - Safe System of Work document as a training guide.

Purpose

The document should be used to highlight the significant risks associated with the machine and the correct operating procedures. Note. This isn’t a replacement for the machine’s manual. It should be used to highlight the key points and to act as a signpost to additional information, e.g. any manual or guidance from the manufacturer.

The first part of the document provides space to give details about the machine and to insert a photo. This makes it easier to identify precisely what machine you’re covering. The photo will allow you to identify some of the key parts of the machine during the training.

Must do

The next section Key instructions for the safe operation of machinery provides space to cover the most important rules. To make sure your staff are aware of the risks, the next part of the document provides space to identify any hazards and control measures to be followed. Finally, there is space for signatures.
