Introduction to this document
Environmental purchasing policy
Using our environmental purchasing policy will help you to fulfil your environmental responsibilities and influence your suppliers, so that you can justifiably claim that you are “greening the supply chain”.
What’s covered?
All companies have purchasing procedures, which may be under the control of a purchasing department or, on a smaller scale, the responsibility of a particular member of staff. Either way, you should ensure that everyone involved in your purchasing procedure is made aware of this policy and acts upon it accordingly. Its aim is to encourage the purchase of goods and services which are environmentally-acceptable, perform well and achieve best value for money overall.
Keep it up to date
It should be a “live” document, meaning you regularly review your purchasing procedures and audit it to ensure that it meets with your commitments. Therefore, we’ve provided space to insert a review date, e.g. in twelve months. There’s also a space for the policy statement to be signed and dated. This should be completed by whoever is responsible for environmental management within your business.
