Introduction to this document

Guidance note - oil storage

You can’t store oil in any old container. It must be specifically designed for the purpose and capable of preventing the contents from getting into the ground surface.

Oil storage guidance note

The exact content and requirements of the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 (CPOR) are often not fully understood, and this makes the implementation of policies and compliance with statutory requirements more difficult to achieve. We have therefore prepared a Guidance Note - Oil Storage, which provides a summary of the main requirements and features of the CPOR. It can be used as an aide memoir or as a training guide to advise staff on what the requirements of the Regulations are.
