Introduction to this document

Guide to licensable asbestos work

If you discover asbestos-containing materials at your premises, you have a legal obligation to ensure that any works are undertaken by appropriately trained personnel. Use our new guide to help decide whether you can handle the works yourself or if you need to employ a licensed contractor.

What’s covered?

Our document, Guide to Licensable Asbestos Work, gives you some examples of the types of work that require a contractor who is approved by the HSE.

What’s included?

Divided into two columns we give examples such as “Any work involving loose fill insulation” in the left-hand column which requires licensable contractors. The right-hand column gives examples of works that can be undertaken without employing a licensed contractor, such as “Work associated with collecting and analysing samples to identify the presence of asbestos”.
