Flow chart - contractor management

You have chosen a contractor to complete construction work and you’re starting to plan how the work will take place. Our flow chart will ensure that you fulfil your client duties under health and safety legislation.

What is construction?

The definition of construction work includes the usual building and demolition works you might expect, along with most maintenance, repair and redecoration. Even high-pressure cleaning is covered.

This matters because all construction work must be managed in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).

The CDM Regulations place significant responsibilities on clients, creating a problem in organisations which have not spent the time in putting their procedures together.

You can resolve this by using our Flow Chart - Contractor Management. It is designed to make it as easy as possible to comply with your duties to manage construction contractors.

Note. This flow chart is not applicable if you have more than one contractor involved in the project. Where this is the case the principal contractor will have responsibility for some of the actions listed in the procedure, e.g. briefing personnel and monitoring work.
