Lifting operations policy

If you make use of cranes whether mobile, tower, overhead, lorry-mounted etc., or use other plant for lifting, such as excavators, you should have clear safety arrangements for their use.

Why do you need it?

Companies increasingly need to prove that they have high standards of health and safety, especially if they’re in any way involved in construction or installation work. In any case, if you have five or more employees you should write down your arrangements for complying with health and safety law.

Our Lifting Operations Policy is designed to give an overview of your safety procedures for controlling work with lifting plant. The exception, however, is fork lift truck use which given some very particular requirements, is better suited to a separate policy.

This document begins with a general statement which explains the type of lifting equipment you use. Section 2 covers the legal position and Section 3 outlines the factors to be considered in risk assessments and lifting plans. Other sections look at competency, fitness for work and the maintenance of plant so it remains in a safe condition.
