Monitoring and measuring policy

If youre working towards ISO:14001 or use an informal environmental management system, a key part is to understand which utilities your business is using and what outputs, such as waste and pollution, you’re creating. Use our policy to set out what youre going to measure and the monitoring you will commit to.

The risks

If you don’t set out what youre going to measure and the frequency youre going to conduct the measurements, it will be hard to compare data and decide if youre increasing or reducing your consumption. By setting out a clear policy you can reduce confusion, define responsibilities and set out the type of data you are collecting and what you are going to do with it.

How to achieve this?

Our Monitoring and Measuring Policy identifies key roles and responsibilities, what you will be monitoring and measuring, how frequently and what you will do with the information you have gathered. In some cases you may need to formally report your energy or water usage to the government, so the policy will help you ensure compliance with the current requirements.
