Introduction to this document
Risk assessment - External areas
If you have external areas under your control, you will need to make sure that they’re risk assessed. Our document will get you started.
What’s covered?
We’ve identified some key considerations to take into account when risk assessing external areas. These are:
- pedestrian walkways
- movement of vehicles
- personal safety
- overhead services and fixtures
- trees and vegetation
- storage
- work at height
- utilities.
In each case we’ve identified the significant hazards which are likely to arise and drafted some typical risk control measures. We’ve also explained who would be at risk from the hazards and given a risk rating, both with and without the control measures. The rating system is explained at the end of the assessment alongside a signature sheet.
Note. Whilst we’ve made every effort to anticipate the hazards which may be present, every location is different and you will need to tailor the assessment accordingly.
