Introduction to this document
Detailed assessment - pushing and pulling
If your staff complete tasks which may involve significant manual handling, notably pushing and pulling, you need to take a close look at the risks involved and identify ways of carrying them out safely.
Detailed assessment
The risks associated with tasks that require significant manual handling - including pushing and pulling - are well known. But this doesn’t mean they can’t be completed if precautions are taken. Before members of staff tackle the load, you need to complete a risk assessment. This will identify the significant hazards associated with the task and, more importantly, suitable and sufficient control measures you need to implement. Use our Detailed Assessment - Pushing and Pulling document to break the task into its component parts, highlight where accidents may happen, and what staff need to do to stay safe. Note. You don’t need to do this for all manual handling, this level of assessment should be for heavy loads only.
