Asbestos management plan

Those responsible for managing premises have a duty to protect staff and others from asbestos risks. Use our management plan template to show how you’re going to do this.

When it’s needed

Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, anyone who manages a premises which is non-domestic (including the common parts of blocks of flats), is a “dutyholder”. This means that they must identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), assess the risks and then devise and implement a control programme. Our Asbestos Management Plan template enables you to draft a plan to suit your own premises and fulfil the specific legal requirement to have one. It is to be used after you have identified the ACMs in your building - a process which is usually best achieved by engaging the services of a specialist asbestos surveyor. Note. If your building was built or refurbished before 2000 you may find asbestos within it. After that date it’s reasonable to presume that it’s not present.

How to use our document

We’ve developed the document with the intention that one plan should cover a single site. If you have a number of buildings on a site, you may prefer to produce one per building. Whatever you choose to do, you must ensure that anyone reading the plan can readily understand where the ACMs are located and what it is that they need to do about it.

The template is set out in five sections with supporting information in an appendix. It has instructions and recommended content shown in italics which you can delete later.
