COSHH/DSEAR assessment - guidance note
The process for risk assessing the use of hazardous and dangerous substances is relatively complicated, so we’ve produced this guidance note to help you.
How to use the guide
COSHH stands for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 and DSEAR for the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002. When risk assessing the use of hazardous and dangerous substances, you should use a COSHH/DSEAR Assessment Record.
Our guidance note uses the same format as the COSHH/DSEAR assessment record so that for each empty box there is guidance on how to complete it.
Before you start you should obtain a copy of the safety data sheet for the product being assessed. You must also have the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to carry out a competent COSHH/DSEAR assessment.
