Lift rescue procedure

Use our lift rescue procedure to inform building users how to obtain help from properly trained staff or contractors.

Why you should use the document

Whilst building users might work out how to raise the alarm if they get stuck in the lift, most won’t give a second thought to what they might do if it happened to someone else. Since it’s not a scenario which staff prepare themselves for, malfunctions can lead to panic and poor decision making.

Using the document

Our Lift Rescue Procedure comprises a short set of instructions which you can display for the attention of anyone who might deal with a breakdown. For example you could put it in your reception and security reference files, emergency plan, and maybe on the staff noticeboard. It’s also worthwhile putting a copy on the wall in the lift motor room, just in case an untrained staff member goes there whilst planning a rescue.

The procedure doesn’t attempt to tell staff how to carry out a lift release. It’s designed to direct them to professionals who can do the job safely.
