Introduction to this document

Work equipment - daily check - crane

Use our checklist to identify what to cover and to record your findings if you have a crane on site.

Important checks

To ensure that the crane and associated equipment, such as chains and strops are fit for purpose, the crane operator should complete a formal and recorded check prior before getting to work. Use our Work Equipment - Daily Check - Crane document to complete this process. This form provides space for a week’s worth of checks.

If the same operator is using the crane for a day, then they can be completed at the start of the shift. However, if someone else takes over, it’s advisable to go through the process again.

Machine details

The first part of the form provides space for a photo of the crane being checked to be inserted. It also asks you to detail the machine type, manufacturer and details of the crane’s manual. Here we suggest you insert a link to the online version.

Next, the document asks the crane operator to document when the next formal inspection is required under the Lifting Equipment and Lifting Operations Regulations 1998 Adding this each week will act as a regular reminder of when the inspections are due.

The next part of the form provides instructions on how to complete and use the form. This includes stating that a new form should be completed each week, one form to be used for each crane and how to complete the boxes.
