Lift safety checklist
All workplace lifts should be subject to a strict inspection and maintenance regime. Our lift safety checklist will help to ensure that you’re staying on top of these legal duties.
Compliance with statutory duties
If you have one or more lifts in your workplace, the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) apply. Although you might think that most of the legal duties fall on the lift maintenance company, that simply isn’t the case.
Lift safety checklist
The first part of the checklist looks at your duties as the legal “duty holder”, in so far as they relate to carrying out statutory examinations of the lift and ensuring that there is an effective maintenance regime in place.
The second section examines the nature of the statutory examinations themselves and the testing frequency.
The final section covers the practicalities of day-to-day management, including a check that there are emergency call systems or alarms, controls in place regarding contractors’ work, and that there is suitable lift car safety equipment for engineers.
