Introduction to this document
Safety briefing - Lyme disease
Lyme disease, transmitted via tick bites, can be a debilitating illness causing long periods of absenteeism, but it is a relatively little-known health issue. Use our new document to raise staff awareness and improve ways to protect them.
The aim of this Safety Briefing - Lyme Disease is to highlight what Lyme disease is, how it can be transmitted and the steps both you and your staff can take to reduce the likelhood of infection.
What’s included?
The hazards and controls are included, along with reminding staff about what to do if they discover a burrowing tick on their skin. There is also a reminder about the correct PPE that should be worn, e.g. if they are working in areas likely to be populated by ticks, they should ensure their skin is covered by long sleeves, long trousers and suitable enclosed footwear is worn.
