Introduction to this document
Client brief
The client brief is designed to help others involved in a construction project understand the client’s vision and aims for the work. Use our document to ensure you’ve covered what’s needed.
What’s covered?
Our document outlines what you should include in your client brief, so as to comply with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. The Regulations require that one is issued for every construction project no matter how small. For short simple jobs the brief may be verbal, but in general it will be sensible to write it down.
It should explain the reasons for initiating the project and expectations as to how health and safety should be managed. It should also include practicalities such as the time frame and budget.
If assistance is needed in compiling the client brief, the client should usually be able to obtain it from their principal designer, where one has been appointed. This appointment is required for projects involving more than one contractor.
