Summary of contractor’s responsibilities
According to the regulations, a construction contractor includes more or less any organisation directing construction workers. Our summary explains who is included within this definition and their health and safety management responsibilities.
what’s covered?
The document explains that the contractor has increased responsibilities for management and control of projects where it is the only contractor. Where a principal contractor has been appointed the contractor must implement the arrangements specified by the principal contractor whilst also taking responsibility for its own work.
Where it is the only contractor, it must prepare a construction phase plan regardless of the size of the construction project, take responsibility for instructing its workers and ensuring site security.
