To clean up spillages safely staff should isolate all sources of ignition, contain the spillage and wear appropriate PPE.

- Identify the source of the spillage and take steps to reduce it.
- Contain the spillage as far as is practicable.
- Wear appropriate PPE when working with spillages
- Protect sensitive areas, such as watercourses or drains, to prevent contamination.
- Clean up the spill as soon as possible.
- Dispose of all contaminated materials (soil/absorbent materials) correctly.”
