What’s covered?
The aim of this Safety Briefing - Safe Driving is to ensure all staff are fully aware of the potential risks associated with driving and what they should be doing to minimise the chances of an accident/incident.
Hazards and risks
The briefing identifies the hazards and risks including driving when tired, faulty vehicles, using a mobile phone and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Management
Control measures include checking driving licences, ensuring staff have appropriate insurance cover, servicing vehicles and implementing a policy that covers the use of mobile phones.
Key points
Attendees must take note of the following key points:
- “Day-to-day vehicle checks must be undertaken by the keeper of the vehicle in accordance with the vehicle handbook.
- Tiredness kills - take breaks at least every two hours or 100 miles, get out of car and walk about for at least ten minutes.”
