Introduction to this document
Food safety policy
If you prepare, sell or serve food or drinks on your premises, you need to ensure that basic food hygiene standards are met and maintained. To set out your position on food safety, use our policy.
Fit for consumption
When staff or customers buy food and drink they have a right to expect that what’s presented to them is fit for consumption. The last thing they want is a bout of food poisoning! Therefore, you need to set out your position on how food should be kept and served. This is where our food safety policy comes in.
What’s covered?
Our Food Safety Policy sets out how food should be handled from the supplier to the plate. This includes, staff responsibilities, identifying and evaluating food safety risks using the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points and the importance of good hygiene practices.
Note. Even if the amount of food produced and sold on your site is minimal, implementing such a policy has value as it identifies that you recognise your legal responsibilities and will take the appropriate steps to comply with them.
